Darlins Come Together: Unscripted by Domysticated

The Darlins decided to read and review Unscripted by Domysticated for this week's Darlins Come Together.

Summary: Bella wanted nothing more than to run with the Cullens; Jasper couldn't wait to run away from his family. A simple story about growing up and finding what you didn't know you were looking for.

Sounds like an interesting coming of age tale. Let's see what the Darlins thought...
***********************************************************************************************************************************************

When I first finished reading the six chapters posted for now, I had a hard time trying to come up with a review to give you guys. Not because this story is bad, because it's not AT ALL, but because it's just that good. I asked myself how do I describe something that just speaks to all of us. So far each chapter has, to me, been about growing up. Something we all have to do.

Domysticated says so much with just a few well chosen words.

You have Bella, who, I think, just wants to feel a little bit normalcy. Who doesn't want things to change but finds that she can't stop those same things from happening.

And then you have Jasper, who, I think, wants to just find his place and reason for being in the world. He wants to make a name for himself instead of being a brother or a son.

While it will end up eventually being B/J, there have only been a few times where they've interacted. I'm anxious to see how they are brought together, especially when Bella is around 4 or 5 years younger and Jasper is away at college and not coming home.

I can't wait to see where Domysticated goes with this story. If the rest of the chapters are as fantastic as the first six, I have no doubt in saying that Unscripted will become a favorite to me and all of you. So if you haven't read it yet, then please do so and leave her some love.

Unscripted is a story that was first recc’d to me on twitter for my underappreciated fics segment. I started reading it so I could review for that and have absolutely fallen in love with the story and the author. Bella’s parents inform her that they are getting divorced and Charlie moves to Forks where Bella now has to spend her summers. She immediately becomes friends with the Cullen twins Seth and Edward as they form a sort of Three Musketeers bond with each other.

She ends up spending most of her free time outside with the boys or at the Cullen’s house, where she begins to realize what she’s missing out on not having a normal family any more.

The Cullens have an older son, Jasper, who wants nothing more than to be out on his own and independent. He marches to the beat of his own drum and wants to prove that he can thrive in his work environment.

I’m so curious as to how this is going to end up a Jasper/Bella pairing but I will faithfully keep devouring every chapter as soon as it posts to find out. Take a chance on this story, the author’s writing style and descriptive tendencies make this so much more than just a story, it’s an experience. You want to know these characters, you empathize with them, and you damn sure want to see them get their happy ending!

First of all, let me say that I love Domysticated’s style of writing. I actually felt like I knew the characters personally. Anyway, the story begins with bella in her pre-teen years and we read how she and the others grow each year. Jasper’s written as the bad boy (love those bad boys! lol). This fic is only 6 chapters in, but I love what I’ve read so far and can’t wait to see how the story unfolds!

So far in the story, we witness Bella growing up and trying to deal with all of the changes in her life. She forms a strong bond with the Cullen family each year when she visits her father for the summer, and they become a second family to her. Bella and twins, Edward and Seth, are best friends and do everything together. The eldest Cullen son, Jasper, is very distant and in his own world; he can't wait to get out of the small town of Forks and live his life.

As each year progresses, Bella, Edward and Seth still remain close, but their dynamic changes ever so slightly. They're getting older. While Seth, who is carefree and a complete sweetheart, remains the best friend/honorary brother he's always been, Edward, who is quiet, reserved and introverted, seems to pull away more and more. The biggest mystery of the story, in my opinion, is Jasper. He's so desperate for a different life that he doesn't seem to notice the hurt he's causing his family, and Bella is completely fascinated by him.

One thing I particuarly liked about this story was Domysticated's ability to effectively portray Jasper's strong desire to explore and experience things outside of the safety and doldrums of his small hometown. Anyone who has grown up in a small community can identify with those feelings - discomfort and the uncontrollable need to do bigger and better things.

It will be interesting to see how the rest of this story plays out and how Bella and Jasper will eventually find their way to one another beyond the confines of their (distant) familial relationship.
