This week’s yummy Save a Horse, Ride a CowBOY story is Got Your Back by LyricalKris.

Jasper Whitlock is a hot shot Special Agent in the FBI who has been put on the case of recovering Edward Cullen, who has been taken hostage by a group of sadistic criminals hell-bent on getting revenge on Edward’s father. Jasper’s record is impeccable and he’s the go-to guy for situations such as this. However, his life has not always been success and adoration. He’s also been on the other side of the fence; tortured, beaten and left close to death when he was taken hostage only a couple years prior.

Special Agent Riley Biers is the complete opposite of Jasper. He’s shy, introverted, a little geeky and spends most of his time behind a computer searching for clues and leads from video and audio files. He’s also great as his job, but will never receive the same kind of praise Agent Whitlock receives, but he’s okay with that. Although he suffers from a case of hero worship when it comes to Agent Whitlock, Riley tries not to let that affect his job and their nearly non-existent relationship at work. However, when Jasper and Riley find themselves working closely together on the Cullen case, both men learn things about each other, and themselves, that could either bring them closer together or push their already fragile and tentative friendship over the edge.

*sigh* Oh my, what can I say about this incredible story? LyricalKris takes the readers on ride filled with hope, dread, anger and tenderness; all of which can occur in just a single chapter. The way she portrays Riley and Jasper’s slowly developing relationship will make you want to root for them as Jasper deals with his PTSD, while trying to maintain some semblance of normalcy and control, and Riley tries his hardest to be supportive even after Jasper slams door after door in his face.

Got Your Back is a powerful story that will hook you right from the start. You will fall in love with sweet and nerdy Riley and feel a myriad of emotions toward the stubborn, troubled hero, Jasper, as they struggle to find balance between the demands of their job, destroying demons of the past and moving forward…together.
