Save a Horse, Ride a CowBOY: A Life of Service by KathySueMe

Sometimes Jasper would rather ride a boy than his faithful steed...

This week’s Save a Horse, Ride a CowBOY story is A Life of Service by KathySueMe, a writing duo consisting of authors, tara sue me and mskathy. I recently read this story and just had to rec it!

A Life of Service tells the story of Edward, Jasper and their son, Emmett. Edward, a police officer, contracts a deadly disease while on duty, and the story revolves around him thinking about his family, how his passing will affect them and how they’ll carry on. Mentally ticking off a list of things to do, he ensures that his family is well taken care of when he’s no longer around. The thing that pains him the most isn’t the fact that he’s going to die, but that fact that he’s going to leave his son and beloved husband, Jasper, behind.

KLEENEX ALERT! KLEENEX ALERT! KLEENEX ALERT! KLEENEX ALERT! KLEENEX ALERT! KLEENEX ALERT! KLEENEX ALERT!

The story is told from both Edward and Jasper’s POV and realistically portrays the depths of their emotions and feelings. It’s rare for me to cry while reading fanfiction, but KathySueMe’s incredible ability to describe Edward and Jasper’s sorrow is so striking and palpable that you can’t help but feel what the characters are feeling, hence the tears that welled in my eyes by the time I reached the end of this beautiful story.

Even if you tend to shy away from tragic, angsty stories, please give A Life of Service a chance. It’s a gorgeous tale that will make you appreciate the people in your life and the time you have with them.
