You heard right, ladies and gents. The Friday Fic Review is back! We took a break from it, reevaluated how we did it, and we're back and better than ever!
The First fic to be initiated is Underneath Your Scars by HammerHips. Be aware our reviews might contain spoilers.
This is one of my favorite Jasper’s. He’s such a southern boy in this one and I love the way Hammerhips portrays him. His dialogue is so genuine, and when I read the fic, I can actually hear Jasper’s accent when he speaks. He is completely taken with Bella, but the story is set at a realistic pace. They don’t just dive into a relationship, and it’s actually Jasper that expresses his feelings first. This Bella is a bit vulnerable and has some healing to do before she can open her heart to him. She’s been through a lot and Jasper is so patient with her.
There are several meaningful exchanges between the two and lots of steamy moments. One of my faves takes place in the chapter entitled Jasper Sundae. It’s adorable. And, what Jasper has to do after that particular scene is kinda hot. Just sayin’.
I also like the fact that the Cullen’s are an integral part of this story along with Peter and Charlotte. In my opinion, all well-rounded Jasper fics should include a bit of his past and Peter and Char represent that. Ultimately, this is a love story, but there is so much more going on with this fic right from the very first chapter. And, territorial/protector Jasper makes an appearance in a big way. If you’re looking for a fresh J/B fic, check this one out.
There are so many things I love about this story.
1. Alice - I love to hate her. She's like the uber-evil pixie of doom. It's great.
2. Edward - He's gay and closeted. This explains so many things.
3. Bella - She's a little chipped but not broken. She's matured and grown. She's feisty. She's all the good things about Bella.
4. Esme - Let's face it, this MILF has teeth! I love how she is maternal with an edge. When she reams Edward a new one in Volterra, I
wanted to do a fist pump. Truly.
5. Rose - She's the cool older sister we all wanted to have. The cool exterior hides a really interesting person. I love her.
6. Garrett - I like him simply because so few write him. Nicely done. And his power is cool.
7. Charlotte - Again, serious cool older sister vibe. Peter describes her as a "war machine". How cool is that?
8. Jasper - He's this perfect blend. Caring and compassionate, strong and virile. It's everything we love about Jasper.
9. Peter - I love this Peter. He's crass, smug, arrogant, loyal, strong, caring. It's all here folks. And he wears purple banana hammocks and plays Helicopter, Helicopter, Helicopter in dressing rooms.
I was also moved almost to tears in the scene where Jacob and Charlie are killed. It's sad, touching, and real. Sam and Embry are also really well done.
Give it a try, I know you won't be disappointed and give HammerHips some love!
OMFG, where do I begin with this fic. I was so happy when we decided on this story (because I wanted to do it, hehe) and now that the time has come, I'm so at a lose for words at how fucking amazing this shit is that HammerHips has written.
I really don't want to give much away for the few of you out there who hasn't read it, but I might get carried away talking about this fic. It's that awesome. So if you don't want spoilers, for the love of Pete (or Peter, because he plays a huge role in this brilliance as well) skip my review, because I am going to talk about a some of the things that will happen. Not ALL though, because I want you to discover some of it yourself.
We start out with Bella jumping off the cliff during New Moon. Yeah, we all know she's a delusional dork but just stay with it, because the end result is not like the pussy version of New Moon. She's saved by the pack but when she gets home, she discovers a horrific scene.
Now, we all know I love dark, angst filled, horror fics, and this fic isn't really so horrific in nature, but the first few chapters are dark. There is some messed up shit that goes down in those chapters that will start a chain of events that leads Bella to her destiny. This is what originally pulled me into the story to start with and she's held my attention ever since. Not any easy thing to do with me.
Alice shows up, but things are different. Alice is acting strangely and once she's discovered what happened after Bella jumped, she decides to take matters into her own hands. Alice is being creepy, well more so than usual with her midget self, and although Bella notices it, she goes with the flow and follows Alice's instructions because she trusts her. (NOTE: Never trust a pixie)
This is where things turn interesting (not that it wasn't before). Bella receives a call from a stranger that tells her not to listen to Alice. The stranger calls her puddin' (LMAO) and gives her new instructions. Bella, for some reason or other, decides to trust this caller and does what he says. Personally love the choice of liquor involved here. Want to know what it is, go read it.
I'm skipping some stuff here, but we finally get to Jasper, (swoons and dies from the hotness that her Jasper is) who has learned where Alice has left Bella. He also suspects something is off with Alice but ignores her. With Esme's help they race to find Bella and when they do they are shocked at what they find. Here begins the journey of Bella starting to heal and realizing Edward wasn't her true mate after all.
I don't want to give you too much more for the sake of letting you discover what happens on your own. All this happens in the first few chapters, so there is a ton of insane, hilarious, and shocking storyline left. At the time of this review, she has 34 chapters written, so go and read, read, read.
HammerHips has woven an amazing story that is not only really well written, but also unbelievably funny. It takes you on a roller coaster with the excitement, romance, angst, and DUDE, the girl can write a lemon that will make you want to dry hump the chair.
So why are you still reading this? Go and read this story if you haven't done so already. It's pure WINN and I want to hump HammerHips for writing us such a fuckawesome Jasper. He's one of my top three Jasper's of all time! And I promise he will be yours too.
Wow. I started off this story thinking 'my God could it get any sadder?" But I kept up because I heard it had promise. The further we go along, the more I like it. Peter's a real doll-I love him in the very beginning. And Bella-she's way stronger than most give her credit for here. She stays together for the most part, as much as she can.
And Jasper. Oh my Gawd. Jasper. I could...eat him up. He's perfectly southern, strong, and...rawr. He's amazing. And perfect. He's exactly like I like my Jasper's.
Alice is awful. I don't like hating her, but its hard to write her in a good way. I prefer to dislike her in this fic. Who am I kidding. There's no way to like her.
I love all the Cullens. I love how everything is so balanced. Did I say I love...yeah, I did. This fic is well-written, has all the components of a good fic, and leaves you hanging after every update. If you're not reading this, you should be.

I LOVE UYS and its author, HammerHips!!! I know that's not surprising since I'm her beta..... among other things, but still. It needs to be said every now and then.
I'm SO glad that y'all gave her some much deserved props! She's amazing! Not to mention, she's lightenin' quick with the updates, so she never keeps ya waitin' for too long!
Basically she and her fic are AMAZING and I'm babblin' 'slightly', so I'm done now.

Wow! I mean WOW. I knew you were doing a rec but I had no idea that it would be this awesome. I've got a big, opinionated mouth, so for me to be speechless is unusual. Thank you for the really wonderful rec, I'm so flattered and, well, in awe.
Having these recs coming from some of the best fanfic writers in the twific world is just so, well, WOW! Thanks so much!
Oh, and Peter said he liked this moment so much he's divorcing that other moment, marrying this one in a lavish ceremony with midgets topping the cake, and then they are moving to Tijuana to open their own donkey show. Yeah, he liked it that much.
