Wow! As some of you may remember, before we renovated the blog I asked who you would like to see as our Darlin' for a day and let me tell you; you guys did not disappoint! We had such an overwhelming response and I'd like to thank everyone who took the time to vote and email us -- we really appreciate it when you get involved! There was however, one very distinct winner, and I must say, we must all be thinking the same thing as I couldn't have been happier with your choice -- this author is someone I have been dying to introduce for sometime now!
Our Darlin' for the day is the one and only, RosellaWhitlock!
Back in the early days of my Fan-Fiction reading addiction, I stumbled across a remarkable one shot called Conflicted Soldier. Immediately I was drawn into a world full of angst, passion and my favorite, original plotlines -- three of my key loves within FFn! Let me tell you this, RosellaWhitlock was writing pre-twilight before most people even Maria really was. And damn good pre-twilight at that. The one thing I admire about RosellaWhitlock, is despite the non-canon pairing (Jasper/Bella) and the AU setting, the characters remain true to canon. She demonstrates how to toy with FFn and yet remain loyal to the reason why we are all here: Twilight. I almost launched myself of the couch in excitement when I found out RosellaWhitlock continued this one-shot into a full multi-chaper fic, there are currently five chapters up, so I urge you to go and check it out asap, you won't be disappointed!
I also highly recommend her other two one-shots, Seeking Retribution From Darkness and Make You Feel My Love as RosellaWhitlock writes an amazing Jasper. She is also a keen shipper of Jasper/Bella and is one of the authors I most admire for her understanding and portrayal of Jasper Whitlock.
RosellaWhitlock also has a personal blog, which I encourage you to check out! There's lots of fantastic in-depth Jaspercentric fic recc's, photo's and teasers as well as lots more! Just click the image in the affiliate section to go check it out, but not until after you've read this week's recc from our very own Darlin' for a day!
Thank you to RosellaWhitlock for stopping by today!
You really are an absolute Darlin' sweets!
It seems anytime we are looking for a good story to read there are several places we can go to get the recommendation we’re looking for, this blog included. Multiple blogs, FFn C2’s, forums, and even word of mouth on Twitter can open up a world of choices for our many desires and cravings. Regardless, some really amazing stories with a lot of potential still fall through the cracks. You know the one’s I’m talking about. The one’s you read and immediately fall in love with and then ask yourself why the hell it has so few reviews? The story I’m recommending today falls into that category.
Rosalynn has written several E/B stories as well as stories from other series, but this is her very first try at Jasper/Bella. That may be scary for some of you hard core Jasper/Bella fans, but no worries because the author does a fabulous job of keeping his Southern roots intact. This Jasper is charming, eloquent, and chivalrous, but he also exudes power, and there’s a darkness that has only been touched upon and will be developed further as the story continues. He's different from my usual preference for the sinister dominating Jasper, but his mysterious side in combination with the gentleman side of him is what has me so enamored with this story.
Fate’s Savior is based on an alternate universe set back in 1872 in a small town located in Texas. I will admit the time period is another feature that has me so drawn to this. Rosalynn has kept the feel of that part of the past very authentic. The culture, forms of speech, and the social interactions between the characters are very reminiscent of that time and you find yourself never forgetting that this story is centered on the late 1800’s.
Jasper’s life as a vampire begins with Maria, but it’s not the same hostile relationship we’re used to seeing. Maria is not an evil hell beast seeking territory, control and power. She’s just looking for companionship. Jasper becomes her companion and friend, but something outside their control happens and Jasper decides it’s best to move on and explore life on his own.
Isabella is part of a wealthy, prestigious family as her father is Mayor of the town. She is courted by a vile Mike Newton, but things quickly take a turn for the worse after an altercation. Lucky for Isabella, in the shadows lurks a predator who will not stand for women being mistreated. This starts as your Damsel in distress story, but quickly turns into a quiet romance where Jasper is convinced Isabella could never be part of his world no matter how much he wants her to be, and Isabella is crushed by his constant hesitance, but she continues to seek him out and get to know him. There’s yearning and innocence to her actions, but she is not the typical shy, demure lady of that time. She has a bit of spice to her and speaks her opinion, even when it isn’t socially appropriate. She’s no pushover and that is win in my book.
There are other surprises that I won’t uncover directly, but I will provide this quote to gain your intrigue. ;)
Mr. Jasper's strong hands held my jacket as I slipped it on and when his fingers grazed my shoulders I felt a shiver run through me. His touch, so innocent yet intense, was amazing. I heard him take a dramatic breath and a smile crossed my lips. I was affecting him as he did me. He opened the door and we walked out. The farther from the house we got, the more comfortable both of us seemed to be.
We reached the stables and Mr. Jasper seemed to be concentrating very hard and studying each of the horses. I watched him in awe as he walked slowly up to each one and ran his hand over their heads and down their manes. I leaned against the doorway and enjoyed seeing him interact with the animals that meant so much to me. It was like he could see the majesty and beauty in them as I could.
"That one is Nightstar. She is my world," I said as he greeted my horse. I felt something stir within me at seeing him being so kind and gentle to her.
"She is one fine animal. So gentle and not as spooked as the others," he said. I didn't understand his comment but I appreciated them none the less.
If I haven’t gained your interest by now then maybe another quote will help. This part is my favorite so far. It explains things so well from Jasper’s POV, and it gives you insight into how heart breaking this is for them both. They are like magnets drawn to each other, but one is resisting the pull, making the tension discomforting and difficult to bear. Another reason I love this story, it is angst driven but has so much potential for passion in its purest form.
I pulled my hand from her softly, hoping not to hurt her feelings too much and stepped away.
"Isabella, we cannot do this. I told you, I am not right for you. Go on and have your moonlit ride, I will see you tomorrow evening." With that I turned and walked out of the stable and to my cabin. Each step was harder than the last as I could feel her utter disappointment, sadness, and confusion flowing. I closed the door behind me and listened to her. She rode off with speed towards the trees. I heard her stop for a moment, and I could picture her in my mind looking back at my cabin with the sadness in her eyes. I was tempted to give in and go out to her, to tell her that I felt the connection too, to tell her I would talk to her father about courting her, but just as my hand touched the door knob, she had the horse running again. It gave me enough pause to realize how selfish that would be of me, how much danger that would put her in.
I couldn't ever be the cause for her life to be in danger; I had to resign myself to being her friend, and only her friend.
I’ve done enough exposing to strip this story bare, it’s time for you to click on the story link and check this out for yourself. It’s only 4 chapters in, but lucky for us Rosalynn is a frequent updater. So far she has updated with a chapter every Sunday! (IKR?) So let’s give Rosalynn a warm welcome into the world of Jasper/Bella. And don’t forget to leave some love for her and Mr. Jasper.
Thanks so much for having me! I was truly honored to be chosen by the viewer’s as DFaD. I even choked on my peanut butter sandwich when I read the email from Clurra. LOL! I was floored that so many requested me. Thank you so much for all the love and support. It’s part of what makes this fandom so amazing. Take care and happy reading!
XO,
Rosella

Rosella, Darling, Thank you sooo much for these kind words and the rec! It means the world to me how much you love my fic. While, I do typically update on sundays, this weeks will be late because I have been at Comic con all week...and I happened to make it to a 100 Monkeys concert...I think you all can understand the appeal in meeting Jackson in person instead of writing about his character :)
